Blight and Bray Families

Researching:
James William Blight was born in 1850 in St Martins, Guernsey, Channel Islands, England. He immigrated to Australia (first to Victoria then South Australia) in 1871. In 1874 he married Mary Ann Marks (born 1855 in Adelaide - daughter of Henry Marks and Mary Ann Reynolds).

1. William Henry married Horeuce J Williams (?)
2. Samuel John married Augusta Amelia Baum (4 children died 1906), Clara Symons (4 children), Charlotte Amber, Bett (?)
3. James married Jane Curtis (3 children)
4. John died as an infant
5. Alma died as an infant
6. Eva married a Whitcombe (2 children)
7. John died as an infant
8. Matthew married Edith Evans (8 children)
9. Olive married Walter Griffin (1 child)
10. Herbert died as an infant

James became a publican (the same occupation as his father in law) and worked at Callington, Kanmantoo, Nairne and Broken Hill in hotels supporting the mining industry. He died at 40 in Broken Hill. Mary Ann later married Clarence James Bray in Broken Hill.

Mine is the family of Samuel John and Augusta Anna Baum. Their sole surviving daughter (Alma Ameilia) was my grandfather.

I welcome any information, but particularly information on:
  • James William Blight prior to his arrival in South Australia (his father was William and his mother unknown)
  • Mary Ann's grandparents are also unknown (parents were Henry Marks and Mary Ann Reynolds - both were in Adelaide before 1855)
